Elfyn Evans Heads Down Under!

Elfyn Evans WRC Academy Champ

To mark the first anniversary of their entry into the Australian Rally Championship, Junior World Rally Champion, Elfyn Evans will drive a second Ford Fiesta R2 for Innate Motorsport in the opening round of the Australian Rally Championship (ARC), the National Capital Rally to be held in Canberra from 1 – 3 March.

The deal was been put together by RSPORT Motorsport, the Australian importer of the exciting Ford Fiesta R2.

Evans will compete in the event ahead of starting his 2013 World Rally Championship program, the prize he won for taking the World Rally Championship Academy title last year.

“When I was approached to do the event I jumped at it,” Evans said. “I want to be a professional rally driver, so an opportunity to gain international experience like this is valuable.”

“My employer, M-Sport thought it was a good idea for my development and a break from our winter is an added bonus but I am taking the event seriously as the team is looking for a result for all the work putting a deal like this together takes.”

“I have heard the roads are tricky and knowing when to push and when to ease off a bit is important and that I can expect temperatures in the mid-thirties, so it isn’t going to be a holiday!”

Adrian Coppin from Innate Motorsport said he was pleased to have Evans in the team:

“The opportunity to run Elfyn cements our place as a serious part of the Australian rally community. I met him when I was in the UK last year and had a ride with him. He has the speed to be a serious contender in Canberra.”
